Life is really better when your pizza place has a mission statement.

It has been said that T.J. Scallywaggle’s is a delicate sprout just lifting her head toward the sky, spreading her leaves in the sun, innocent and trusting, basking in the tender care freely offered by the forces that nurture her…

It has been said that T.J. Scallywaggle’s is a dazzling multi-cultural fireworks display, illuminating the evening sky with brilliant flashes of electrified insight and inspiration, fusing music and color and joy and hope…

It has been said that T.J. Scallywaggle’s is a mighty sledgehammer, quietly poised, with hundreds of others, gathering our wits and courage and strength, slowly approaching the security fences at the dreaded slaughterhouse gates…

Rock City Prom was at Common Ground last weekend (this pic is from last year since this year is Flickr negative). Apparently, there was some martini brawlin’.

Raquel makes at Shabu-Zen sound fun, if not particularly appetizing.

So after realizing the buoyancy of the mushroom ball, we started speculating how far it would go if we bounced it outside. It just so happens that Shabu Zen is located behind a parking lot. So I wrapped the bouncy ball in a napkin and we experimented in the lot. I kid you not, the mushroom ball bounced all the way across the lot, through several puddles, and when we caught up with it, we realized that it had still retained its basic shape.

I managed to shave my arm all by myself… and headed off to Allston and Regeneration tattoo to get it done. Next time someone asks me if getting a tattoo hurts, I’m really going to have to go into a lengthy discussion about how tattooing works, placement of tattoo on body and what is being done. Because being tattooed anywhere near or on your elbow really rather hurts. A lot.

I still feel a bit less than jazzed to see this stuff moving into a block that is best known (and best for) it’s eclectic mix of charmingly sketchy eateries and beer bars.

BarmyFotheringayPhipps is less worried-

I predict that the stereotypical South End/Back Bay restaurant will never gain a strong foothold in Allston, partially because the restaurants you describe are largely patronized by people from the immediate neighborhood, and those people don’t live in Allston, and it wouldn’t occur to them to venture “all the way out to Allston” for dinner. (I actually kind of dread the day I know is coming, when the more-money-than-sense people discover what a sweet deal we’ve got going in Allston and come in to ruin it for everybody.)
