Five stabbed?
Posted by nathanael. Filed Under crime | Leave a Comment
An ambitious night. First somebody chucked an egg at me and now this.
OVERNIGHT: Man stabbed at Blue Hill Ave and Woodville at about 1:40AM. 5 people stabbed at Brighton/Harvard Av at about 2:30AM.
UPDATE: The Boston Channel has more information. Nobody dead, thankfully, but one in serious condition.
UPDATE 2: One killed. Sad day.
One person was killed and four others were wounded following a stabbing in Boston’s Brighton/Allston neighborhood.
Police said they responded to the intersection of Brighton and Harvard Avenues at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday.
There, they found five people suffering from stab wounds — two of them left with life-threatening injuries. One of those victims, a male in his early twenties, died after arriving at the hospital.
Police have arrested 23-year-old Mitchell Martinez on charges including murder and assault and battery.

The Joint

There’s a slight irony of a shop named The Joint selling high end glassware. And an additional sideways irony of them getting burgled (the joint being where you’d probably end up after lifting five grand worth of bongs). Anyway I’ve never been in there but it looks like they have an interesting interior design thing going on. And a good security camera – check out quite a few more pictures of the perps here.

From the Tab.
Police were called to Ringer Park in Allston on Feb. 5 at approximately 3:29 p.m. to investigate a report of a fight between two young women that about 15-20 males were videotaping.
Officers canvassed the park area and found a small group of females leaving, walking toward Gordon Street. One girl was suffering from several scratches on her face that were bleeding. The 16-year-old girl said she had been in a fight with unknown suspects, and that the boys were taping it for broadcast on YouTube.
I couldn’t find it on the youtubes. But it probably went something like this.

Qdoba Rice and Beanpot, postponed

The gastronomic distress you may have been anticipating from tonight’s burrito eating contest (…) will have to wait another day as it’s been delayed til tomorrow due to our little blizzard-in-making.
Supposedly the ideal way to stretch your stomach prior to one of these is by eating heads of raw cabbage. That does not sound particularly tasty.

Totally antisocial but still kinda funny.
Cops reported stopping at a red light and seeing the suspects and an unidentified female rummage through a trash barrel and take out a plastic bag with watermelon inside. One suspect threw a piece into the road, while another ran into the intersection and heaved a chunk into the air so that it splattered and caused traffic to swerve, cops said.

And that’s that for poker night.

I don’t understand the business model of the Beantown Poker Tour. You play for free, but somehow win cash? Where does this magic money come from? There are some financial oddities going on there. Their FAQ says the MA attorney general is aware of them and approves so no worries about getting arrested. Thanks Martha!
Anyway, it looks like the poker events that were going on on Tuesdays at The Draft are no longer.
Effective Immediatley [sic] all tournaments at The Draft Bar and Grille are cancelled [sic]. We apoligize [sic] for any inconvenience and will be replacing this tournament very soon.
It’s a mystery as to why. This town needs a proper casino anyway.

The Kells is closing, re-opening as Tavern in the Square.
According to the Phantom Gourmet, The Kells, a nightspot on Brighton Avenue in the heart of Allston Village that has been featuring dancing, DJs and live music since the early 1990s, is being replaced by Tavern in the Square, a dining spot and bar with three locations in the Boston area that features mostly American fare and pub grub.

A small part of me is lamenting that we’re not getting any of that blizzard this weekend. It’ll have to suffice that MeredithBaker can make our little remaining ice look pretty.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Highway Division Invites You to a Public Information Meeting for the River Street Bridge/Western Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Wednesday, February 3, 2010
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Honan-Allston Branch Library
300 North Harvard Street, Allston, MAThe purpose of this meeting is to provide an overview of the proposed rehabilitation of the historic River Street and Western Avenue Bridges, introduce MassDOT’s design team, answer questions and gather comments.
I can’t go to this but am curious about what they have to say. Also on topic I’m curious about what kind of progress has been made on securing the underside of the Cambridge St overpass.

It’s a figurative title guys. Yet another chapter in the neverending saga of Kells misbehavior.
A fight in The Kells Night Club, located at 161 Brighton Ave in North Brighton led to charges pressed against one of the bouncers.
George Hewett, 21, of Berkley, N.H. allegedly assaulted a female patron as he attempted to remove her from the bar at 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 24. The bouncer told police he was trying to break up a fight between three females when he was pushed to the ground on top of one of them.
Someone should ask Carolyn Conway if Hewett recently came from a hip-hop show at another venue.
