Harvard going green

One thing you can say about being stuck with a giant hole in the ground is at least it’s kinda green, in that abandoned Soviet nuclear test-site sort of way. Harvard is buying 25 million kilowatt-hours of wind energy from First Wind to power the parts of campus that are actually constructed.

The 15-year contract could supply Harvard’s Cambridge and Allston campuses, which consume nearly 250 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, with up to 10 percent of their power needs, the company said, making it the biggest wind-power consumer of any New England university or college.
