It turns out the cute girls in line at Harper’s Ferry yesterday morning weren’t lost ones looking for iPhones but instead were simply ~36 hours too early for Miyavi (his US tour is stopping in Boston tonight). Yeah I don’t know who he is either, but according to the #1 comment on youtube ‘He’s like a sexy alien who came to earth to be awesome.’ Ok! Apparently he’s the hot shit of the evening in Allston, so sayeth some of the hundreds of west harajuku kids lined up around the block right now. Judge for yourself.

*acute observers will notice a yellow Miyavi sign in the photograph above. I did not.

I fucking hated Augury. In between the awkward stage banter and gratuitous pleas to buy merch, all I heard were some noodly sweeps and overpowering bass drums. Just another bunch of nerds from Quebec that play clinical, soulless tech-death without a sick riff or hook to be heard. I’d rather be cursed with an iPod full of braindead deathcore than one more song by Augury.

Side question: does the the pallorousness of this hot pants ad interfere with or enhance their salaciousness?

I love me some Big Buck Hunter*, almost as much as I love arbitrary law enforcement of licensing violations in the middle of what feels like (slipping into fearmongering hyperbole) a veritable stabbing spree. Thus some folks end up with adversarial feelings towards the BPD when a community partnership should be the end goal. But if things really are getting better and they feel like there’s no other crime most foul to address I guess this busywork is what comes next.

· At Bravo Pizza, 160 Brighton Ave., police found there a “Big Buck Hunter” arcade game to be in operation, but there was no entertainment license filed for the game.
· At Harpers Ferry, 155 Brighton Ave., police found that its entertainment, health, billiards and inspection certificates had all expired in September 2009.
· At Great Scott, 1222 Commonwealth Ave. in Allston, police found that the inspectional services certificate had expired in January 2009, and was issued a licensed premise violation.

My premise here conveniently ignores what sounds like some legitimately illegal fun going on at the 379 Club, ostensibly a barber shop.

The 379 Club barber shop, 379 Cambridge St. in Allston, was the business with the larger number of violations.
Police said they entered the building around 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 4 and found 60 to 80 people watching big-screen TVs, playing pool and playing cards at round tables. There was also a bar with bartenders serving drinks and a massage table upstairs.

*Big Buck Safari is clearly a superior playing experience. Anyone who would preferentially kill domestic animals over exotics is too boring to tolerate.

**Were I running Bravo I’d look into the “dollar bill loophole” as only coin operated video games are subject to helpful civic oversight.

This is likely the one and only time you’ll ever hear of a construction detail cop actually doing something along the lines of “protect and serve“…

Around 11:30 p.m., passersby reportedly told an officer working a construction detail for National Grid about the fight near the bar at 158 Brighton Ave. The suspect, who had reportedly punched a man waiting for the bus for no apparent reason, allegedly tried to punch the officer in the face when he approached but missed, landing his punch on the officer’s left shoulder.

Yikes. Unfortunately due to the horrific design aesthetic of H-F’s website it’s beyond me to figure out which aggro-band can be blamed for whipping this dude into such a frenzy.

The Chicago emo-pop band is playing a not-so-secret-show Thursday at Harpers Ferry, to provide an all-ages preview of its upcoming sophomore album “Folie A Deux,” which drops Dec. 16.
