I was at a Sox game last Thursday (3-0 loss to Texas, bummer) and noticed the absolute lack of nachos in the stadium. Kosher hot dogs from a friggin vending machine yes, but simple nachos + neon cheese & canned jalapenos, not so much. I didn’t make an exhaustive search or anything but as I was specifically looking for a non-meat option you think that that would have been something I could have found.

Anyway, point being, if you’ve missed it, the mini-major brouhaha brewing between Boston.com’s Courtney Hollands and the mustachioed ladies of Nacho Patrol. According to their open letter Hollands contacted NP for site recommendations then wrote up one of their insufferably frustrating to load click-per-pic features without giving any sort of link, credit or nod to her source. I shouldn’t have bothered to link to the Globe’s nacho roundup last week. As small penance I’ve added NP to my woefully inadequate and infrequently updated blogroll.

Big City got a favorable mention in boston.com’s nacho roundup today (go go 21st century journalism go!). I’d be remiss to point out that Nacho Patrol has had the mediterranean nachos at #1 on the specialty sub-list since their review last year. A much better option (it would seem) than the cross-Comm competition at the (“distinctly rape-y“) Joshua Tree.

Nacho Patrol is back in Allston, amusingly & predictably disappointed over at the White Horse.

Could it be? No, it couldn’t possibly. Or could it?? They couldn’t. They simply wouldn’t! But they did. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, White Horse Tavern committed a sin so vile, so horrific, that it was heretofore unfathomable: AMERICAN CHEESE.

Nacho Patrol has been eating their way through Allston. Their gut, your gain. HEED THEIR WISDOM.

Sunset Bar & Grill: massive

We were in heaven…yet it quickly turned to hell. These nachos suffer from too much of a good thing– so many ingredients were piled on them that it was near impossible to get an even distribution. It took us a good ten minutes to crack through the cheese to get to the pork, and even then, only Guest Judge Doreen had easy access.

Common Ground: unflavored

After a few bites we flagged down our waitress and asked for a side of chili in hope of a hail mary. We poured it on top and hoped for the best, but unfortunately, all was lost, as even the chili was bland…

Our House West: best when intoxicated

Yet despite all the awkwardness and embarrassment, we continue to return, for the $3 Brubaker’s, consistently favorable male-to-female ratio, and the fact that it is within stumbling distance of Nacho Patrol World Headquarters.

That sounds about right.
